LAW STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD IN HONOUR OF GCU FACULTY |
To recognize the contributions of the GCU Faculty of presenters and facilitators, WGCC created a scholarship award in the name of the GCU Faculty available to law students at Canadian law schools. The CGU Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to a first year law student enrolled in a Canadian JD or LLB programme who demonstrates leadership skills and behaviours. The criteria is based on the Most Sought After General Counsel competency model described in the general vernacular. For 2021 the ‘Drives Results’ competency was selected. The applicants were asked to submit with their application a personal statement demonstrating their leadership skills and behaviours of ‘driving results’ to enhance the success of women: How they have overcome tough circumstances or setbacks to create opportunities for women; or How, while working on a team, they championed women to achieve great results together despite challenges. The President of WGCC announced at the Annual General Meeting held on January 27,2022 that the winner of the 2021 GCU Faculty Award is Clancy McDaniel, a first year law student at the University of Victoria. Clancy’s fierce advocacy lead to the creation of a suite of e-mental health tools for students, and the funding of projects to combat sexualized violence and human trafficking on campuses. Through her public advocacy Clancy demonstrates the power of taking lived experience and bravely translating it into policy advocacy to make positive change. |
