the WGCC 2022 NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The WGCC National Conference is an annual event attracting over 75 in-house counsels who are leaders within their organizations. Attendees come from the private, public, and the not-for-profit sector. This Conference is unique because it is organized by women legal leaders for women legal leaders. The goal of the Conference is to address issues from a perspective not found elsewhere.

WGCC Spring Session: Re-Ignite!

Wednesday, June 15, 2022   11am - 5pm EDT  |  Toronto | FREE to Members

In this final session – held LIVE and simultaneously STREAMED - we re-ignite your passion and give you meaningful tools and inspiration for you to thrive in the months to come as we prepare ourselves to get BACK TO THE FUTURE! We'll hear from a panel of your peers about what worked, what didn’t, and how you can draw on THEIR wisdom so you don’t waste YOUR time! We then leap into maximizing your purpose and leadership presence to fulfill your career strategy and meet your goals. Finally, we get personal with a professional stylist so that we can create a stylish statement as we have fun grabbing the brass ring and shattering all remaining glass ceilings as we get 'BACK TO THE FUTURE'!

Session A: The Future is Less is More. Why is it so hard? A presentation from Hacking Sophia www.hackingsophia.com

We’re supposed to edit our homes, only keep the things that bring us joy, and ruthlessly prioritize at work and in life. So why do we all have a never-ending stream of more to do? The power of intentional subtraction…why do we struggle so much to do away with things that aren’t serving us? Simple strategies that help us do less and get more.

Session B: Leadership Strategies for the Future – Panel Discussion with Norie Campbell, Poonam Puri, and Wendy Walberg

What have you learned? What skills have been most useful, and which have you let go? What would you tell your 2019 self? What do you want to keep doing; what are the silver linings from the chaos of the past two years?

Session C: Fireside Chat with Cory Price, President and Managing Director, Consumer Health Canada, Johnson & Johnson.

Session D: Cocktails, canapes, accompanied by a fantastic presentation from personal brand stylist, La Closette, on the fundamentals of building a professional wardrobe in the post-pandemic corporate environment.

OUR PANELISTS

Norie Campbell is a senior executive and board member and was most recently the Group Head and General Counsel of TD Bank Group. At TD, she was a member of the Bank’s Senior Executive Team and led a number of functions during her more than two decades tenure including Human Resources, Marketing, Corporate and Public Affairs and many legal and regulatory risk management functions. She is passionate about the contribution of the Canadian business community to Environment, Social and Governance priorities and to Diversity and Inclusion. Norie ran the United Way of Greater Toronto’s Major Individual Giving cabinet in 2021 and is a member of the board of Toronto Metropolitan University and the Rideau Hall Foundation.

Poonam Puri is a tenured professor of business law and former Associate Dean at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is a practising corporate/securities lawyer at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, a seasoned corporate director, and one of Canada’s most respected experts in corporate governance and business strategy.

Poonam serves on public and private company boards in a broad range of industries spanning real estate, infrastructure, engineering, mining and fintech. She is a director of Colliers, CAPREIT and the Canada Infrastructure Bank. Poonam is a former Ontario Securities Commission commissioner and a former director of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Arizona Mining and Cole Engineering. She is also former director of Women’s College Hospital and currently serves as Vice-Chair of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto.

In 2021, Poonam was awarded the Law Society Medal, the David Walter Mundell Medal and the Royal Society of Canada’s Yvan Allaire Medal for excellence in contributions to the governance of public and private organizations in Canada. Poonam has been previously recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers, one of Canada's 100 Most Powerful Women and one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 leaders. Poonam is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law (LL.B., 1995, Silver Medalist) and Harvard Law School (LL.M., 1997).


Wendy Walberg was appointed City Solicitor for the City of Toronto in 2017. She is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a specialist in Municipal Law (Local Government) and is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Municipal Lawyers’ Association (IMLA). Wendy holds both an LLB and an LLM (Administrative Law) from Osgoode Hall Law School. She was an panelist for the Collingwood Judicial Inquiry in 2019 and has been a guest lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law school. She is also a member of the Board of Governors of Lakehead University.

International Body Language Expert: Presentation

Nadia Ait, an international body language expert and behaviour analyst, together with the #1 body language expert in the world and ex-FBI Special Agent Joe Navarro, co-founded Body Language Academy by Joe Navarro.

In our January session, your will first hear from Ms. Ait on the importance of nonverbal communication and how to make better connections. She will discuss the challenges and opportunities for women in leadership positions, with a focus on nonverbal communication. Learn from an expert how to better understand and make the most of your own body language as well as more effectively read the body language of others to give you the best chance for success.


Energy for Optimum Mental and Physical Performance: Presentation

Dr. Haley Perlus will then deliver an awe-inspiring message to ensure that you have the energy for the performance necessary to get you “BACK TO THE FUTURE”!

With virtual meetings a part of everyone’s day to day life we need to ensure that we have the energy - mental and physical - for optimum performance each and every day. Dr. Perlus will explain how to handle the pressure at work, access your skills and talent on demand and perform like a champion athlete in the corporate world. Focusing specifically on senior women leaders in the legal profession, her discussion on resilient leadership for women, how to conquer mental blocks for optimum success, and how to channel optimum energy flow to achieve your highest standard of performance.

As we re-emerge after our brief pause, it is time to re-Connect and re-build relationships with the amazing members of the WGCC through Networking Circles that will provide connections between the sessions. For those of you that will be able to join us LIVE in the Toronto area for Session #2, these sessions will ensure that when you arrive you will be met by familiar faces and be able to further expand your connectivity through meaningful relationships. For those of you that will be joining us VIRTUALLY for Session #2, these sessions will ensure that you benefit from the energy and are able to discuss the content and feel connected to your intimate group –building relationships that will last through your career and as you get 'BACK TO THE FUTURE'!
