WGCC Networking Circles
INVITATION: June 11 & 13, 2024

Importance of Stakeholder Relationships - A Roadmap to Meaningful Success

WGCC Networking Circles are small, informal groups designed to enable the discussion of a topic of interest to members with a focus on legal professionalism and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Circles are also a way to connect with other members of WGCC to expand your network and support system as you navigate professional challenges faced by executives. BONUS: Circles are submitted for CPD credit in Ontario, and more information to follow.

Date and Time: WGCC Networking Circles are 60 minutes long and are scheduled as follows:

How to Sign up:

  • Send an email to info@womengc.ca indicating which circle you wish to attend.
  • Sign up early to avoid disappointment – but no later than 12:00 EDT on Wednesday June 5th for both Circles. We want to ensure you receive the materials for the Circles in advance and your Circle Lead can send you the calendar invite.
  • Ensure to “HOLD” the time/date in your calendar.
  • In advance of your Circle, you will receive a calendar invitation and email from your WGCC Circle Lead with Circle Pre-reads & materials for connecting on the day of your chosen circle.
  • Please note that a Circle may be cancelled if interest is low (which has NEVER happened yet).
  • If you miss the above deadlines, please send an email to info@womengc.ca for possible options.

Directions for Attendees:

  • Chatham House Rules apply to all Networking Circles.
  • Accept the calendar invitation from your WGCC Networking Circle Lead with the Circle details (Zoom/Teams) (you will get it soon, if you have not already received it).
  • Please review the Circle Material below – you do not have to review any/all of the material as it follows the same theme. Feel free to browse until you find something of interest. We encourage you to STILL ATTEND a Circle, even if you do not have time to review any of the materials as you will gain valuable insights from the discussion.
  • On the day of the Circle, please sign in using the invitation from your Circle Lead and turn on your camera – your Circle Lead will start the discussion.
Circle TopicImportance of Stakeholder Relationships - A Roadmap to Meaningful Success

When climbing the corporate ladder many may still think “managing up” (your boss in particular), is the right “traditional route” to crystallize our credibility as a leader. Is it? Or should we now look at the reputation and value that the legal role can have amongst its corporate peers and key stakeholders. Do we, as business influencers, invest enough time in understanding our stakeholders and their roadmap?

When beginning a new role or accompanying organizational growth and transformation, we put in a lot of effort towards understanding the strategic plan of who we work for. On the other hand, we often take for granted the presence of our other stakeholders. In fact, many articles now discuss the importance of those stakeholders’ relationships in career development and in building effective legal departments. Taking time to map both the key business stakeholders in our organizational universe as well as in our legal department universe when planning our year or the next quarter’s activities is in fact a great way to ensure success. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on this topic.

    Sub-Topics:

    • How can we practically map those relationships as part of our planning?
    • How can we raise our awareness and the one of our peers and teams around our stakeholder’s universe?
    • How can we build time to look at those key relationships and understand how to make them even better and use them as a leverage to success?
    • What can we do today to ensure that stakeholders are at the core of our legal mission and vision when servicing our businesses?
